Grounded Theory Approach on the Adaptation Process related to Retirement for Elderly

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to discover the adaptation process related to retirement for elderly. 16participants who had experienced retirement were recruited by theoretical sampling. The data were collected through in depth interview. Collected data were analyzed through grounded theory approach of Strauss and Corbin(1998). The result of this study was that 91 concepts, 36 sub-categories and 13 categories were showed by open coding process. ¡¯Remain as a good person¡¯ was emerged as a core category. On the basis of core category, the adaptation process related to retirement for elderly was 4 stages, ¡¯preparation period¡¯, ¡¯awakening period¡¯, ¡¯meditation period¡¯ and ¡¯adjustment period¡¯. ¡¯Remain as a good person¡¯ had four types of activity, contemplation, conflict and complacence. This findings provided basic information to
develope program of the retirement adaptation for elderly.
